Hello and welcome to The Culture Project. There is a really cool group exhibition going on this week on verse.works based on Generative Architecture. Some of these artists are architects in real life and all of these projects are based on architecture in some way. Some are obvious in their approach and some of them are a lot more abstract. Follow this link to see the power house of artists that are involved and the projects they have been working on.
Erik Swahn is one of these artists and his new project is releasing tomorrow called Funktor. It’s a really interesting abstract project that explores boundaries and spaces. It also shares a theme with two previous projects he’s done. These two projects are on fxhash and they are called Farbteiler & Punktwelt. I recently added a Farbteiler to my collection, something I have wanted for a long time. And it was one of a few grails at the top of my list. Punkwelt is another wonderful project. It was the continuation of the theme of color perception in Farbteiler. The three projects have the same feel to them and thought the progression over the three was really interesting.
Farbteiler #59 from my collection
Farbteiler was the third project he released on fxhash and it’s the one he is most well known for. And for a good reason. It has some gorgeous colors and mesmerizing patterns. You can see his architect background in these as they form walls and simple structures.
“Each Farbteiler is a rectilinear, mostly self-avoiding walk, dividing the space of the canvas with dotted grids using colors from Johannes Itten's Farbkreis. Everything is inside and everything is outside.” Farbkreis is German for color wheel and the name Farbteiler is German for color divider.
Punktwelt was the last project that he released on fxhash. It’s another one that is highly collected. It’s crazy to think it has hit 125.9K Tezos in secondary sales. Right at double what Farbteiler has achieved. Another example of architecture being apart of the theme. A lot of these outputs resemble rooms and buildings.
“Continuing on the theme of color perception in Farbteiler, Punktwelt is an exploration of color interaction, projection and perceived depth, and the aesthetics of simple Boolean operations on form.
Each shape is the result of a single block, a rectangular cuboid, subjected to a series of Boolean subtractions with other blocks, and rendered in parallel projection, oblique or axonometric, in the abstract landscape of the Punktwelt.”
That brings us to his newest project, Funktor. It will be a series of 256, sold through a ranked auction with rebate and mint pass. The mint pass will allow you to mint outputs that you have saved on the project page. I ended up going through 200 plus outputs. It took a long time to look through them all. There ended up being 23 I favorited towards the end. It was really hard to narrow it down to these, but here are my favorites from the bunch. I leave you with one other cool thing; you can export an STL file that can be used for 3D printing. Really excited to see what people mint from this project.
