Hello everyone and welcome to the next iteration of the Artist Spotlight. We are going to cover an artist that may be lesser known to the broader community. One I feel has some quality work and someone to watch for future projects. His name is Daniel Aguilar and goes by protozoo. He has released four projects on fxhash over the last eight months. I just became aware of him recently with his latest project, Effluence. Which was just released a few weeks ago. As soon as I saw one of them I knew I wanted it in my collection. After that I explored more of his work and wanted to share it with the community.
Daniels’s first project Trazos has a very calming feel to it. There is something powerful in the simplicity of this series. He calls it “An exploration on the expressiveness of simplicity.” This is the smallest collection size of his with only six pieces in the set.
I really love the color palettes and patterns in Rhythms. Little dots and lines aligned in different intricate patterns. The different sizes; square, portrait, and landscape add a nice quality and depth to the series.
"Rhythms invites you to reflect on the beautiful complexity that fills our vital experience, on the millions of tiny details that bring texture to our journey causing balance or disruption.”
ÉSSERS is another smaller collection with only seventy six pieces. I wish the smaller projects were bigger, so we could explore the work more. You can really show the depth of a project when you have a larger collection. A lot of the pieces in this series remind me of the Composition paintings Kandinsky did in the early 1900’s.
Composition II by Wassily Kandinsky
Composition 8 by Wassily Kandinsky
This was the project that came out a few weeks ago that drew my attention to this artist. This is a beautiful series and one I intend to keep in my collection. Works like these make me think of small atoms or the vastness of space when I look at them. I really enjoy art like this. It reminds me of Omega Point by Monotau in some ways.
“Through our eyes, the universe is perceiving itself. Through our ears, the universe is listening to its harmonies. We are the witnesses through which the universe becomes conscious of its glory, of its magnificence.”
