Hello and welcome to The Culture Project. There is a new Layer 2 chain on ETH making its debut tomorrow. Harvey Rayner will be one of the first to release a long form generative art project on the site. He’s been working on a project that I thought was a month out from being released. Big surprise, it drops tomorrow. There is a lot of hype behind this new chain and there are some big name artists backing it. It’s an exciting time and hopes are this could help breath some fresh air into NFTs and the ETH ecosystem. There are a few other amazing projects dropping this week that I’ll talk about as well.
Lets dive in.
Noodlz by Harvey Rayner - No link for project yet.
Presented by Shape on Highlight
Mints on Monday - 600 pieces in the set.
Price: 0.193 ETH on Shape L2
Noodlz will be the first Long Form project released on Shape. The mint will go live when the chain goes live tomorrow. It’s a little pricey for a release on a brand new chain. With that said, Shape does have the support from an amazing lineup of artists & builders. Here is just a small list of big names involved in this project; Emily Xie, XCOPY, OSF Rekt, Deekay, Grant Yun, Harvey Rayner, & many more.
I recommend checking out their website and reading about the Shape Network.
SHAPE CULTURE
Shape is the chain for creators.
The home where culture takes root through reflections of the moment — from rare works, to open editions, to everything in between.
The place where anyone can design, build, and experiment to contribute to the web of creativity as it forever expands.
The network where digital objects can interact programmatically, enabling grand structures and systems at a scale that was once not possible.
I’m on the Council of Elders which is like an inner circle for Harvey’s community. I was lucky enough to be chosen with a handful of others and we get to see what he’s up to behind the scenes. I’ve had the pleasure to see this project grow over time and am very excited to see which mints come out. I have a few WIPs from a few weeks back that show some of the progress and changes it has made since then. I thought I’d share those first and then the newest WIPs are from today.
The majority of his algorithms he creates he puts up on his website. You can explore various versions of the same project to see how it has changed over time. Here is the site for Noodlz. Feel free to explore it.
'Noodlz' is a fun, memorable and unpretentious name. It is the working title for this project and I always intended to find a name that had more depth as the project evolved. But honestly, this project has no big extrinsic conceptual theme, it is a project about picture making. Space, movement, push and pull. Like all my work it also contrasts the old with the new, the future with the past through the juxtaposition of algorithmic worn surfaces and dynamic clean geometric forms. I feel it's my first pure long form generative project since Velum.
Presented on Verse
Mints on Monday - 2 pieces released in an ongoing set.
Price: $3,000 // 1.124 ETH
Qubibi with a few more pieces for the storeroom. Always cool to see more of these being released. I really love his work.
It’s for looking at.
ASCIISHIFT8 by humanbydefinition
Presented on fx(hash)
Mints on Wednesday - 256 pieces in the set. - Onchain - Animated - Interactive
Price: 0.0064 ETH (Base)
We have humanbydefinition’s second release on fx(hash). They had an amazing first release that I minted a few of. I’m really looking forward to trying to snag a couple of these. The style, movement, and color schemes in the outputs have been crazy. I made a video below to check out. These deserved to be watched in full screen. I think this is a new artist to pay attention to.
ASCIISHIFT8 is a generative artwork that delves into complex pixel-shifting algorithms, dynamically rendering the resulting patterns as ASCII characters in real-time on a canvas that adjusts seamlessly to any screen size. Designed with accessibility in mind, it operates smoothly on any device or browser supporting WebGL2, ensuring a fluid experience across both mobile and desktop platforms.
Each iteration starts by randomly generating 8 non-overlapping rectangles, each controlled by a unique rule selected from a set of 32, resulting in diverse pixel-shifting behaviors. The duration of each cycle is determined by the largest rectangle, creating continuous and dynamic movement. With each new cycle, 8 newly sized and positioned rectangles are generated with fresh shifting rules.Acknowledgements:
The pixel-shifting mechanics of ASCIISHIFT8 are inspired by the brilliance of Kim Asendorf's 'monogrid 1.1 CE,' which influenced how the interaction of rules, shapes, and generative motion is approached in this project.
A little video of one of these in action. Take a look at it live & full screen. They look amazing. Check it out here.
